In memory of Norma Renee Abdul
1933-2025
Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother
Norma was the greatest homemaker, cook and matriarch of our family.
Born in
Honolulu, Hawaii, she graduated from McKinley High School.
Her high school days were some of her favorites. She was very involved in as many high school activities as she could. While growing up in Hawaii, she lived a beautiful and simple family life with her father Philip and mom Alice, in addition to her siblings, Philip, Clarence, Georgie and Marie. Her dad was a streetcar conductor back in the day in Honolulu. They didn't have a lot, but her father was an amazing cook, as well as her mom, which Norma also became herself. She was the best hostess and really knew how to throw holiday parties that brought all the family together. She shared her love for her family via entertaining and food. Once moving from Hawaii to California, she met Richard Medeiros and they married, which grew the family even more, much to her excitement, which meant more mouths to feed and more family to share life with. They initially lived in
Oakland, CA, but then moved the family to
San Leandro, CA.
Norma had five children.
Her son, Jon Nichols, who married Peggy Nichols, had granddaughters, Janay Santos & Breanne Briseno, and ultimately had great grandchildren, Rachel Nichols, Javier Briseno, Mariah Pancho, Vivien Briseno, Taylor Santos & Justin Santos, in addition to great, great granddaughters, Ashlyn Arcila and Luella Pancho.
Her son, Darrell Nichols, is married to Sue Nichols, and reside in Utah, have grandson, Derek Nichols, and granddaughter Tammy.
Her daughter, Renee Furrow, who resides in Hawaii, has grandson, Noah Furrow.
Her son, Keith Medeiros, is married to Bernadette Medeiros, and have grandson Josh Medeiros and his wife Justine, who all reside in California.
Her son, Vince Medeiros, is married to Teresa Medeiros, and have grandson Jared Medeiros and granddaughter Michelle, who all reside in California.
Norma also has nieces Julie Llorenz, Lorraine Archibald and nephew Jim Medeiros that she was very close to.
Norma touched so many lives and impacted so many people's lives in her friendships and family. She will be truly missed by so many, many people. We thank her for all she brought to our lives and we cherish the memories she provided us all. She was beautiful, strong, independent, generous, giving and loving.
We thank all who brought happiness to her life, the help and support of family and caretakers in her times of need, and for all who loved her.
Mom's wishes are to be cremated and ashes scattered in the oceans of Hawaii, so there will be no services in California. The scattering of the ashes will take place in the new year at some point.
