NORMA ASHLAND
Norma Jean Ashland passed away on August 28, 2025, at the Griggs County Care Center at the age of 99. Norma was born March 29, 1926, in rural Steele County to Hoger and Alice (Knutson) Veile.
Norma grew up in rural Steele County. She was one of three children. Norma attended rural grade school. She worked for room and board while she was attending High School in Cooperstown.
Norma met and married the love of her life, Gordon Leir Ashland, on June 29, 1943. Following their marriage, they started farming in Clearfield Township. They continued farming until Gordon’s retirement in 1990. They were blessed with three children, Priscilla, Deborrah, and Barton.
Norma and Gordon were Charter members as well as Lifetime members of the local Sons of Norway. Norma served as club secretary for many years.
Norma & Gordon loved to go to dances. She loved family get-togethers. Norma always tried to keep up with her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren’s lives. She enjoyed visiting with friends and having coffee with the girls.
Norma worked at various jobs over the years, including the Johnson Store, Adie’s Ladies Clothing Store, and the Co-op C Store and Gas Station.
Norma is survived by her children, Priscilla (James) Paul of Mandan, ND, Deborrah (Ric) Moos of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Barton (ReNae) Ashland of Cooperstown, ND. Grandchildren Tom, Tim (Becky), and Scott Paul (Jen), David, Daniel, and Josh (Cameo) Moos, and Whitney (DJ) Bones and Courtney (Zach) Hoffman. Great-grandchildren Ashley, Sheyenne (Jacob) Monaghan, and Cody Paul. Jordan (Tony) Wyrick, Katie Reichenberg, Morgan (Aiden) Schuh, and Jacob Paul. Carter and Camdyn Moos, River and Charley, and Louie Hoffman and Atlas Bones. Great Great Grandchildren Jaxx, Valkyre, Olivia, Harper, Tony Jr., Valentina, and Brantley, Brother-in-law LeRoy (Janice) Ashland of Kenyon, MN. Along with several Nieces and Nephews. She was loved by all and will be missed. Step-grandchildren Jayson, Jeff, and Jayme Gronneberg. Step Great-Grandchildren Emmee, Hunter, Jaxson, Jersey, Kole, Xander, Knox, Stella, and Grayden Gronneberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoger and Alice Veile, her brothers Donald (Mrytle) Veile and Everett (Narda Mae) Veile, Brother-in-Law Clifford, (Marjorie) Ashland, and Sister-in-Law, Donna Lou (Maynard) Walen, and Granddaughter-in-law, Susan Paul.
