Norma Jo Brown, 88, of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, formerly of
Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 2, 1937, in
Lexington, Kentucky, Norma was the cherished daughter of the late Albert Readmond and Laura Shelby Mitchell. A proud Kentuckian through and through, she carried the warmth, strength, and grace of her roots with her throughout her life.
Norma dedicated many faithful years of service to the Blue Grass Army Depot, retiring after a career marked by hard work and commitment. Yet her greatest work - and her deepest joy - was her family.
In 1956, Norma married the love of her life, H.D. "Bud" Brown. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to devotion and enduring love. Together they built a big, close-knit family grounded in faith, laughter, and unwavering support. Though Bud preceded her in death in 2009, the love they shared remained a guiding light in her life and lives on in the family they created.
Norma loved her Lord, her church family at Parkway Baptist Church, and her family with her whole heart. Her faith was steady and evident in the way she lived - with kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. She found joy in crocheting, drawing, and sewing.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: David (Missy) Brown, Terri Jo (Dennis) Brown Finch Wells, and Steven Todd (Rachelle) Brown; her 10 adored grandchildren; and her 15 wonderful great-grandchildren, each of whom she loved beyond measure. She also leaves behind her beloved sister and confidant, Laura Gail Mitchell.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Norma was preceded in death by her siblings, Albert Mitchell and Alma Dean Mitchell Reeves.
A service to honor Norma's life will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 463 East Main Street,
Lexington, Kentucky, 40507. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lexington Cemetery.
Norma's six grandsons - Aaron Brown, Ethan Brown, Ryan Finch, Adam Finch, Christian Finch, and Luke Brown - will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Norma's memory to Parkway Baptist Church of
Lexington, Kentucky.
Norma Jo Brown's life was a beautiful reflection of faith, devotion, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her prayers, comforted by her example, and forever grateful for the blessing of calling Mom, Sister, Nanny, and Friend. Her memory will be treasured always.
