Norma Jeanne Cortes

Norma Jeanne Cortes, 76, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with brain
cancer on June 27th, 2023 at her home in Gansevoort, New York. Norma was born on
December 22nd, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY to Gemma (Giossi) Paini and Joseph Paini. She grew up
with her older brother, Joe, in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn. In 1963, Norma met
Edwin Cortes, and they married in 1965, living in Brooklyn for the next decade. They had two
children: Yvette and Erik.
In 1975, the Cortes family moved to Ronkonkoma, Long Island. Norma worked at Blue Cross
Blue Shield and was later employed by Nature's Bounty as an account manager until she
retired.
In retirement, Norma and Edwin traveled extensively, making numerous trips to Europe and
around the United States, and they regularly visited Edwin's childhood home of Puerto Rico.
They were happily married for 58 years.
Norma also enjoyed cooking, seeking out interesting restaurants, reading, taking walks in
nature and country drives, going to movies, and spending time with her children and
grandchildren.
Norma is survived by her husband, Edwin; her daughter, Yvette Cortes (Eric) of Saratoga
Springs, NY; her son, Erik Cortes of Seattle, Washington; and her three grandchildren: Elena and
Carina Schneider and Julian Cortes.
A private funeral service will take place Thursday, July 6th at 2:00 p.m. at Tunison Funeral Home 105 Lake Ave Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
