Norma Dunn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tri-State Cremation and Funeral Services on Dec. 14, 2025.
Norma L. Dunn, a pillar of strength, bravery, wisdom, and unyielding positivity, passed away on December 10, 2025. Born on September 22, 1935, Norma was known for her warmth, generosity, and the unmistakable loving spirit she brought into the world. Her life was marked by resilience, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to family and community.

Norma will be lovingly remembered by her children and family: her son, Morris W. Dunn and wife Sarah; her daughters, Kathy Dunn and Randall Peacock, and Gail (Dunn) Jackson and husband Robert Jackson. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Major W. and Sally Graham, and Arlis and Shirley Graham.

She was a proud grandmother to her grandsons Marcus Graham and wife Amy Dunn, and their daughter Magnolia; Noah Jackson and wife Rebekah, and their children Matthew and Jacob Jackson; and to her granddaughter Brandy Smith and husband Bryan.

Norma is further survived by her nieces and nephews: Michael Reeves and wife Jennifer, and their children Hunter and Skylar Reeves; Bobby Graham and wife Marion; Brenda St. John (Graham); Major Todd Graham; Tony Wayne Graham; Gary Graham; Brett Graham; Holly K. Graham; and Tara Helen Graham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Major and Mae Graham, and her sister, Kathleen Reeves.

Norma also leaves behind a large and devoted extended family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Her reach was as wide as it was deep, and she was cherished by many.

Among Norma's greatest accomplishments was raising her three children, whom she considered her pride and joy. She taught them to "be Switzerland," to show compassion, and to offer unwavering support through hardship. Born in Prescott, Arkansas, Norma later moved to James Bowie, where she attended school and was a standout basketball player in high school. There, she met her former husband and later moved to De Kalb, Texas.

Norma was a co-owner of Dunn Lumber Company, the De Kalb Concrete Plant, Dunn's Grocery Store, and a Western Store. She was a co-founder of the De Kalb October Fest in 1973 and played an active role in the Jaycees beginning in 1974. She also served her community faithfully as Site Manager of the Senior Citizens Center for 25 years.

Despite the many challenges life placed before her, Norma never wavered in her compassion for others. She continued to support her family and extend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Norma found joy in planning large gardens and home-canning vegetables for her family. She loved to sew, create beautiful ceramics, and spend time tending to her rose garden.

Her legacy is one of generosity, kindness, and selflessness. Even with little to spare, Norma gave freely to others. Even when sick or in pain, she cared more for her loved ones than for herself. Her life reflected her philosophy: "You can be a survivor, or you can be a victim," and "The world moves on, even when we're not ready."

Norma's loss is deeply felt by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her memory will continue to inspire strength, resilience, and generosity in those whose lives she touched.

Mom, you have always been our guiding light. Thank you for every sacrifice you made and for loving us so completely. Your hugs healed our hurts, your words shaped our dreams, and your strength showed us what was possible. You were not only our mother, but our best friend, and the strongest person we know. We love you more than words can say. You were the best mother ever.

Norma was courageous, inspirational, kind, loving, funny, and full of joy-a true ball of fire who showed us what can be accomplished through determination and persistence. She lived her life to the fullest.
Services will be held on Monday December 15, 2025 at 1 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Texarkana. Burial will follow at Old Woodmen Cemetery in DeKalb.
Arrangements are entrusted to Tri-State Cremation and Funeral Service.
