Norma Emerson, a dedicated and respected retired postmaster, passed away on July 27, 2024, at Forest Cove Manor in Jackson, Tennessee. She was born on April 3, 1936, in Gibson County, Tennessee. Norma was a star basketball player for Gibson County and still holds the basketball record. Her outstanding skills led her to be in into the Gibson County Hall of Fame.

Norma's life was filled with numerous accomplishments and passions. She found joy in her hobbies of painting, gardening, and traveling, but above all cherished her time spent with family. Norma had a deep love for flowers that translated into her passion for gardening.

She had a fulfilling career as a postmaster but her proudest accomplishments were tied to her faith and community involvement. Norma was a devoted Christian, teaching Sunday School as a young parent, and had been a member of Saulsbury Baptist Church at the time of her passing.

Norma is preceded in death by her husband, Rich Emerson, her father, Walter Gleason Pirtle and mother, Alene Gardner Pirtle. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Diane Laster of Jackson, a son, Matt Emerson and his wife, Kim of Hornsby, and grandchildren, Robert Connor Emerson, Campbell Emerson and Katelyn Emerson. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Marie Laster and her sisters, Helen Pirtle Parrish and  Doris Nell Coleman.

The visitation for Norma will take place on July 31, 2024, starting at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar followed by the funeral service at 4:00 PM. The interment will be held at Saulsbury Cemetery in Saulsbury.
