Norma Freday Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Roanoke on Jun. 5, 2022.
Norma Jean Freday of Roanoke, Virginia, who turned 84 on April 24th, went to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of June 3rd, 2022, surrounded by her family and the soulful sounds of her beloved Elvis Presley. She was born in Canton, Ohio andlived a full and blessed life. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was always full of life, enjoyed good company and a good screwdriver, and made each Christmas a magical experience for everyone.
Norma was preceded in death by her soulmate in life-Leonard "Russ" Freday, her mother, Evelyn Rice, father Eldon Derrick, brother Jerry Derrick and sisters Charlotte Hall, Cathy Clay, and Sandy Hudak, and she is delighted to be reunited with them all.
Norma is survived by her three sons Scott Freday, and his wife Mary and daughter Evelyn Joy of Floyd, Ray Freday, and his wife Melinda and their two sons Aaron Ross and Jeremy Raymond of Roanoke, Rusty Freday of Roanoke, and cherished daughter Jodi Freday and her wife Kristen of Roanoke. It is a testament to how much she loved her children and how much they loved her that they all remained so close to her throughout their lives. Many treasured friends, including an "angel" sent to her late in life, Janie McGuire of Roanoke, also survive her.
Norma's primary mission in life was to love her familyunconditionally, and she brought her children's dearest friends, Angie Hodges and her daughter Alexis & granddaughter Aziyah, Anne Houston, and Kevin and Keith Spencer, into that inner family circle. There were many others who saw her as a second mother because she went beyond the call of duty to be the mother she wanted to be. In short, she did good.
A celebration of her life will be held at Don Ho's Restaurant and Lounge at 365 Lee Highway in Roanoke, Virginia from 4:00-8:00 pm on Monday, June 6th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the .
