Norma Irene Hayes, 81, of Dix, Illinois, passed away at 5:50 am January 9, 2024 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born October 3, 1942 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Leslie O. and Ethel I. (Duncan) Brookman. Norma married Elijah "Jack" Hayes, Jr. on June 25, 1959 in Oak Grove Baptist Church in Jefferson County, Illinois. They were blessed with fifty-six years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 28, 2015.
Norma is survived by her sons, Mark Hayes and wife, Tracy of Pacific, Missouri, Bryan Hayes and wife, Susan of Pekin, Illinois; grandchildren, Alicia Mohesky and husband, Jeff of Pacific, Missouri, Robert Hayes and wife, Alyssa of Denver, Colorado, Breanna Fryer of Pekin, Illinois, Bethany Hayes of Pekin, Illinois, Eddie Konsewicz of Saint Louis, Missouri, and Frank Konsewicz and wife, Jordan of Saint Louis, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Cole, Luke, Brody, Marlana, Max, Toby, Cora, Sophia, and Theo; brother, Alfred Brookman and wife, Treasa of Opdyke, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by brothers, Stanley, Oakley, and James Brookman and daughter-in-law, Toni Hayes.
Norma retired from Good Samaritan Hospital after thirty-three years as a physical therapist. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church.
A Visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Mr. Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Norma's honor to Antioch Christian Church.
