Norma "Rosa" Herzog passed away peacefully on the morning of October 22, 2025, at St. Joseph's Villa in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Rosa was born on April 22, 1941, in Pensacola, Florida, to Boyce Cropper Sr. and Mary Magdalene Peacock. She was the third of their children.
During her formative years, in an unusual circumstance, Rosa was raised for several years by the Brown family of Pensacola, Florida, before returning as a teenager to live again with her mother.
Rosa met her husband, Boyd Herzog, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. After his military service ended, they moved to Logan, Utah, and eventually settled in Bountiful, Utah. They were later divorced. Rosa never remarried but devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her children and being a loyal friend to many.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rosa had a deep love for the Savior and His teachings, which she sought to instill in her children. She served as a missionary at the Family History Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and maintained a lifelong passion for genealogy. She loved sharing family stories and preserving her heritage for future generations.
Rosa spent the majority of her professional life as a data processor and supervisor for the Utah State Tax Commission. She rose early each workday to balance her responsibilities at work with those of raising her children-often with minimal support but abundant determination.
Early in her marriage, while living in Logan, Rosa worked as a cook at the Logan LDS Hospital (now Logan Regional Hospital)-defying the old saying about "hospital food." She was an exceptional cook who delighted others with a wide variety of dishes, though her favorite cuisine reflected her Southern roots and her upbringing along the beaches of the Gulf Coast in Pensacola.
Rosa had an extraordinary sense of humor and always had a joke or funny story ready to share. Heaven must have needed some extra joy and laughter, which she is surely providing now.
Rosa dedicated her time, talents, and boundless love to her children, grandchildren, siblings, and countless friends she gathered over her eight and a half decades of life. Those blessed to know her were richly rewarded, and those who called her "Mom" or "Grandma" were even more so. Though she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing she is free from the limitations of her aging body and reunited with loved ones beyond the veil-no doubt sharing stories and her testimony once again.
Rosa is survived by her children Julie (Jody) Warburton of Taylorsville, UT; Troy (Carol) Herzog of Brigham City, UT; Crystal Hein of Draper, UT; and bonus daughter Michelle (Kevin) Stay of Garland, UT; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters Lillian (Ray) Mills Anita Shipe, and Bonnie Brown, and her brother David (Mary) Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Boyd Herzog, her brother Victor Cropper and her sister and Laura Coker.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Joseph's Villa for their devoted care and kindness to Rosa over the past 17 years, during which she became their longest- tenured resident.
A celebration of Life in honor of Rosa will be held at a future date. If you would like to be made aware of the details, please send an email to [email protected] .
