Norma E. (Bartosh) Kubichek, 99, Iowa City, IA (formerly of Solon, IA) passed away peacefully on July 14th, 2025. Per Norma's request, there will be no services. The family will gather at a later date for a private interment at Rogers Grove Cemetery, Ely Iowa.
Norma was born on January 28th, 1926, to John and Inez (Hall) Bartosh in rural Johnson County, IA, near Solon. Norma married Lawrence "Bud" Kubichek on June 6th, 1945, at Saint Peter and Paul Church, Solon, IA.
For many years, Norma worked alongside Bud at their plumbing business, Kubichek Plumbing and Heating in Solon, IA. Together, they built and remodeled several houses in Solon before retiring to Sutliff, IA in 1985 to be near the river. Norma enjoyed fishing, traveling, and being outdoors. She was an avid gardener and berry picker. Norma spent many years helping with the Solon school lunch program. She was an amazing baker, known for her kolaches, pocketbooks, and rohlikys. She passed along many of her recipes from memory, sometimes "forgetting" an ingredient or two.
To know Norma was to love her. She was a fiercely competitive bingo and card player. Even when her grandkids were young, she would not let them win. She was the embodiment of strength and independence. She had a fierce work ethic and was always on the go. Norma lived her life to the fullest, knowing that life is too short, always do what makes you happy, and to not care what others think.
Norma passed along a love of the outdoors to her son, Keith; strength and independence to her daughter, Kristy; a love of travel to her oldest granddaughter, Stephanie; a life of originality and her famous kolache recipe to granddaughter Kimberly; and love of family to her grandson KC.
Norma is survived by son, Keith (Janet) Kubichek, Winnemucca, NV; daughter, Kristy (Russell) Nichols, Iowa City, IA; granddaughters Stephanie (Phillip) Potter and Kimberly Nichols; grandson KC (Wendy) Kubichek; great-grandchildren, Kaisley and Keith Kubichek; brother Richard "Dick" (Marie) Bartosh and numerous nephews and nieces whom she loved as if they were her own.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, John and Inez; her husband of 63 years, Bud; their infant daughter Connie Kubichek; sister Bernadine "Bim" (George) Reyhons and beloved cat "Babe".
Norma has asked that any memorial donations be made in her name to support local animal shelters and rescues.
Norma and her family would like to thank the entire staff at Briarwood for taking such good care of her for the past 7 years, after a stroke required her to leave her home. Words cannot
express the family's appreciation to their staff for their care of Norma in her final days. Norma's family would also like to thank Essence of Life Hospice for their strength and guidance during this difficult time.
