Norma R. McGee Munn went home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2023 at the age of 87. A funeral service will be held on November 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith, Arkansas with Rev. Don Bradford officiating.
Norma was born as the first child of Andrew and Zelma King McGee in
Greenwood, Arkansas, on May 25, 1936. She attended Fort Smith public schools and graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1954. She later attended Nursing School at Westark College in Fort Smith, Arkansas and graduated as an LPN in July, 1983.
Norma married late in life to Ben Munn in 1987. They enjoyed each other's company and traveling together. Norma enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers in her garden.
Norma was employed as the first secretary of Spradling Baptist Church where she worked for 20+ years. After becoming an LPN, she was employed at Armor Heights Nursing Home for 3 years and retired from St. Edwards Hospital in Fort Smith after 18 years of service.
Norma was a strongly independent person whose life was spent caring for people. When her father was diagnosed with a brain tumor, she took care of him from surgery until his death. She also cared for her mother in her last days. Her husband Ben suffered COPD and she attended his needs as well. In her work as an LPN, she gave nursing care to patients in a Nursing Home and worked in the cancer ward at the hospital. She frequently visited friends in Nursing Homes to give encouragement as well as homemade gifts and candy.
Norma was a faithful member of Spradling Baptist Church in Fort Smith. She loved her church and her church family and was always present when she was physically able. When she was not able, she had many favorite preachers on television. She was a devout Christian woman and a model of service to others.
Norma is survived by her brother Andy McGee and wife Gail of
Ponca City, Oklahoma, several nieces and nephews, including Kay King, Eric Sweet, and Kenny Baker of Fort Smith, Cathy McGee of
Ponca City, Oklahoma, Scott McGee of Bordertown, New Jersey, Cassandra McGee Bowling of
Memphis, Tennessee, and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Munn, both parents, Andrew and Zelma King McGee, two sisters Betty McGee Nuckolls, Mary McGee Cannefax, one brother, Frank McGee, and two nephews, Kirk Baker and Robert McGee.
She will be missed.
Visitation will be 5:00- 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7,2023 at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith, Arkansas with interment at Dawson Cemetery in Milltown, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Steven Smith, Mike Smith, Dan Hobbs, Phil Hobbs, Jerry Hobbs, Jackie Gibbs, and Kirk Martin.
