Norma J. Moore

Mrs. Norma Jean Moore was born to the union of the late McDonald and Gonzella Brashear in Tonieville, KY on September 23, 1938. She departed this life peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, Ky

Mrs. Moore attended the historic Bond Washington School and later went on to obtain her GED. On August 27, 1960, she united in marriage to Charlie Moore. In addition to raising their six children, they managed to find the time to open Moore's BBQ in the 1970's which operated for several years. She and her husband were avid Elizabethtown Independent Schools (EIS) supporters with their third generation of students now enrolled.

They instilled in their children that Christ comes first and set the example by serving tirelessly and with joy in whatever capacity she was needed. She served the First Baptist Church in Elizabethtown for over 66 years. During those years, she was an Usher for over 50 years, serving as Secretary and then went on to Preside over the Usher Board for many years. She taught Sunday School, sang in the Senior and Mass Choirs; was a member of the Pastor's Aid, Senior Adults, Jolly Matrons Club, Better Homes & Garden Club; taught the Junior Boys' Sunday School class as well as Vacation Bible School. She served as President over the Officers' Wives Ministry and Missionary Ministry. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and recently united with Little Zion Baptist Church. On the State level, she served as an Usher with the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky.

Mrs. Moore served as a lunch cashier at Elizabethtown High School and 16 years as a school bus driver with Elizabethtown Independent Schools for special needs students further exhibiting her servant's heart. She thought she was retiring, but at the urging of her granddaughter, Renata, she applied for, and was a School Crossing Guard for St. James Catholic Schools until she fully retired.

She proudly had many, many "adopted" children. Mrs. Moore had a beautiful spirit, never meeting a stranger and truly exemplified the Proverbs 31 Woman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charlie; one daughter, Rita Moore, five brothers, William Douglas, Herbert Haskell, Maynard Leo, Carl Maxie and Edward Ray Brashear; three sisters, Florine Harris, Leatta English and Nettie Ray Brashear; two grandchildren, Mashonda Moore, Jacob Moore; and a bonus son, Steve Hampton.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald Nelson (Cynthia) of Colorado Springs, CO; Ricardo Moore (Diana) and Reginald Moore (Mitzi) both of Elizabethtown, KY; two daughters, Rhonda Moore Scott (William) of Elizabethtown, KY, and Rochelle Moore Harden (Kenneth) of Chattanooga, TN; 12 grandchildren, Bradley Moore, LaManda Rodriquez (Joel), Charles Moore, Danielle Nelson, Renata Patton, Clayton Patton, Roscoe Walker (Madison), Rossmann Walker (Moana Pinner), Shawn Moore, Natalie Moore, Naomi Moore and Nichol Parker; six great grandchildren, Avery Patton, Ava Patton Jones, Isabelle Rodriquez, Elysia Moore, Ezra Moore, and Paisley Moore; sisters-in-law, Clarene Quarrells, Eunice Moore and Lucy Brashear; childhood friend, Laverne Rogers, and special friends, Shellie Chinn and Dorothy Buckner; a host of "adopted" children, grandchildren, family and friends.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Glendale Christian Church, 119 West Main St., Glendale with the Rev. Jelani Tuck officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabethtown Cemetery.

Visitation after 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2025 at Percell & Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
