Norma Jean O'Neal McGinty passed away October 1, 2025 at 91 at her home in Grand Junction, Colorado after a prolonged illness. She spent time with family in the days leading up to her passing so they were able to share their good-byes. Norma was born June 18, 1934 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Lum and Lillian O'Neal. She moved throughout Oklahoma and north Texas while growing up, but called Wewoka, Oklahoma home.
After graduating from Wichita Falls High School and Abilene Christian College, Norma taught elementary school in San Angelo and Austin, Texas. She soon met Don McGinty, and they were married in Wewoka, OK on June 14, 1958. Norma and Don lived in Alicante, Spain, Lubbock and College Station, TX, Tucson, AZ, Fort Collins, CO, Denton, TX, Colorado Springs, and Grand Junction, CO throughout their time together. Norma continued to teach elementary and preschool classes at various times over the years and frequently taught Sunday School classes as well.
Norma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Don, and their three children Greg, Chris, and Scott. Greg lives in Westminster, CO with his wife Darci and three children, Xander, Daniel, and Jacob. Chris lives in Grand Junction, CO with her husband Pete Banghart and their daughter Emma. Scott lives in Highlands Ranch, CO with his wife Candace. They have a son, Preston, and a daughter Monica, and Monica's husband Trevor Kent, all of Denver.
We will celebrate Norma's life Sunday October 19 at 2:30 PM at Eastside Church of Christ, 5905 Flintridge Drive, Colorado Springs, CO. Burial will be Monday October 20 at 9 AM at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO.
