Norma Ann Olson, age 89, of Sunburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 20, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Interment will be at West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Peterson Brothers Sunburg Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Norma was born on May 31, 1934, in Atwater, Minnesota, the daughter of Gust and Helen (Benson) Johnson. She grew up in the Atwater community and graduated from Atwater High School in 1952. From 1952 to 1957, Norma lived in Minneapolis and worked at a loan company and Reinhart Brothers. Later in 1957, she moved to Willmar and began working at a dental office.
On April 18, 1959, in Atwater, Minnesota, Norma was united in marriage to Robert R. Olson. They lived in the Spicer and Paynesville areas for a short time in the early 1960’s. In 1965, they purchased a farm near Sunburg where they resided. Together they were blessed with two children, Debra and Timothy.
Norma worked for many years at the Willmar State Hospital as a psychiatric aide and later as a home health aide at Rice Care Center. She retired in 2018. Norma enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking and attending area garage sales. She loved animals and cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by one son, Timothy Olson of Sunburg, two grandchildren, Craig (and Heidi) Hatlestad of Winsted and Kristie Collins of VA; three great grandchildren, Hailee, Bryce and Riley; and one son-in-law, Gary Schott of Lester Prairie, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2019; her daughter Debra Schott in 2019; one grandson, Jeffrey Hatlestad and two brothers, Roger Johnson and Roland Johnson.
