Norma Jean Oppold, age 90, of Freeport, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Born on April 15, 1935, in Freeport, Illinois, she was the daughter of Robert and Lois (Lohr) Kosier.
On April 7, 1956, she married William Albert Oppold. She was a steadfast source of strength, offering a listening ear and comfort to those in need. She cherished traveling with her family and delighted in dressing elegantly in heels, hosiery, and a lovely dress. She had a fondness for jewelry. Beyond her outward beauty, she had a way of bringing fun to others, often making us laugh until we cried. She was also a wonderful cook, and her meals created warmth and togetherness among family and friends. Her humor, generosity, and presence will be lovingly remembered.
She is survived by her children: Randy Kosier, Theresa (Lynn) Koch, Gloria (Stuart) McDowell, Bill (Deb) Oppold, Patty (Al) Lambert, Mary (Jim) Stites, Vicki Oppold, and Wayne (Tina) Oppold; as well as 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents, Robert and Lois (Lohr) Kosier; her brothers, Robert and Pete Kosier; her infant son, John Oppold; her daughter, Bernice Moore; and her grandson, Kevin Oppold.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, 504 N. Walnut Avenue, Freeport, Illinois. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside services will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A memorial will be established in Norma’s name with St. Jude’s’s Research Hospital and Voices Against Domestic Violence. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers who provided support and compassion during her time of physical need.
