Norma Jean Patterson, 70, of Grants, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born on June 5, 1955, in Taos, New Mexico, Norma Patterson was the daughter of Eugene Rodarte and Oralia Lopez Rodarte. Throughout her life, Norma was best known for her deep devotion to her family, her loyalty to her work, and the radiant presence she carried—one that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering love will stand to be unmatched.
Norma dedicated her life to caring for others, both personally and professionally. Her greatest pride was her family, and she found her happiest moments surrounded by her children, grandchildren and students she cared for. She cherished family gatherings, music—especially her country oldies, which she never missed a beat to—gardening, and week-long camping trips.
She was deeply involved in giving back to her community through her church activities, school fundraising efforts, board involvement, coaching, and teaching throughout the years with Grants Cibola County Schools. She will always be remembered for never giving up, for being a true role model, and for setting a remarkable example for all to follow.
Norma is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gary Patterson; their children Ginger Vernon (John), Patrick Patterson, Chelsea Patterson-White, and the grandchildren who they have raised: Andrew, Areya, and Alisa Patterson.
She is further survived by her grandchildren: Anthony (Elizabeth), Cheyenne, Ambra, Destiny, Jazlyn, Justin, Cassadee and great grandchild Kaia.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her grandson Joshua Vernon; and her brother Chris Rodarte.
A Celebration of Life for all will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Elks in Grants, New Mexico.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any items be delivered directly to 805 Charles St., Grants, NM 87020.
Norma’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life. We take comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, reunited with those who went before her. Though she will be deeply missed here on earth, her spirit lives on in eternal peace.
The family would like to send a special appreciation to those who have checked in during this time, for their donations as well as meals for the families.
Thank you to Legacy Church, At the Elks, and Mt.Taylor Funerals for your assistance.
