NORMA LYBRAND REDD, 78, passed away Wednesday evening, April 9, 2025, three days after the loss of her beloved husband of 60 years, Glenn A. Redd. Her loving family was by her side.
A native Aiken, SC, Norma was a daughter of the late Tommie E. and Gertrude Stokes Lybrand. She lived her entire life in Aiken County. In the early 1970’s Norma worked at Mangles in downtown Aiken prior to accepting a job with Aiken County Department of Social Services. She also worked at North Aiken Elementary School tutoring students in reading recovery. Ultimately, she and Glenn became sole owners of G & N Refrigeration.
Norma had a beautiful smile that would light up the room. Her perpetual smile will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Of all things, probably what she was most proud of was being a “Professional Mema”.
Surviving is her son, David Redd, Sr. (Teresa); her daughter, Darya McMurtrie (Cory) all of Aiken; grandchildren, Tosha McAlister (Gary), David Redd, Jr. (Sydney), Will McMurtrie (Cassie), Justin McMurtrie (Randi), James Redd (Christina), Emma McMurtrie; great-grandchildren, Hayden McAlister, Cameron McAlister, Cooper McMurtrie, Kiah Redd, Zion Redd and Evelyn Redd and two sisters, Patricia Tinney (Gerald), Crestview, FL and Lana Ellison, Pilot Mountain, NC. In addition to her husband and parents, Norma was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Lybrand; a brother, James Thomas Lybrand; and a granddaughter, Lindy Elise McAlister.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening, April 12th from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Sunday afternoon, April 13th at 2 o’clock at Redds Branch Baptist Church with The Revs., Matt Steelman and Dr. Brad Willis officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grayson Still, Tim Hutto, Brian Hargis, Cory McMurtrie, John McMurtrie and Mike Harley.
