Norma Jean Sanchez, age 63 of Houston entered into eternal rest on May 31, 2025. She was born on August 26, 1961 to Anastacio Sanchez and Aurelia Perez in Galveston, TX. Norma is preceded in death by Brother, Rudy Frank Sanchez, Sister, Yolanda Wigley, Father, Anastacio Sanchez, Mother, Aurelia Perez, Step-Mother, Eloisa Garcia Sanchez. She is survived by her beloved family which includes Two Brothers, Ruben Sanchez, Anastacio Sanchez, Jr.; Two Sisters, Rose Garcia Trevino, Joanna Fuentes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Norma Jean Sanchez was born in Galveston, Texas, on August 26, 1961-the same year and just 15 days later, Hurricane Carla struck, bringing massive destruction to the island. Our daddy would always comment about being inside a shelter with a newborn, as the storm passed over. In many ways, Norma Jean was like that hurricane-she would burst into your life, spin things around, and just as suddenly, be gone.
Norma was never one to sit still. She had an adventurous spirit that took her far beyond Galveston. She loved to travel-often by herself-and explored countries on her own with confidence and curiosity. Whether wandering through Costa Rica or relaxing on a tropical beach, Norma embraced the world with open arms. She also loved vacationing with friends, especially on cruises, where she'd enjoy the music, dancing, and laughter that came so naturally to her.
Her bold, independent nature only grew stronger with age. In her fifties, Norma bought herself a motorcycle-a true reflection of her free spirit. She loved hitting the open road and often rode alongside her brother and sister-in-law, enjoying the wind in her hair and the sense of freedom that came with it.
She left home at a young age to forge her own path in the world. Her beauty, quick-wit, and untamed spirit attracted plenty of attention, opening unexpected doors-like being invited to appear in a commercial for a private airline and joining a girl group that even recorded a song. Over the years, she crossed paths with some fascinating (and even famous) people, which enriched her life and made for some very interesting stories from our sis about who she met. Eventually, Norma slowed down-just a little. She bought a house and built a home for herself and her beloved pets, Sola and eventually, Mio. After retiring from ExxonMobil, she embraced a quieter life, turning her focus to her faith, her family, and the animals she adored.
Norma will always be remembered for her love of music, her infectious laugh, her joy for dancing, and her excitement for live bands. She carried a positive attitude through every stage of life and always insisted on keeping the faith. She will be missed by her surviving brothers and sisters and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunt and uncle, and of course, friends.
