Norma Sutton Obituary

NORMA J. SUTTON (1933 – 2024)
Norma Jean Snowden Sutton was called home on July 2, 2024. Norma was the first of five children born to John G. Snowden and Ruby Lee Smith Snowden in Georgetown, Texas. She attended public schools in Georgetown until she married Lloyd Hoover in 1949.
Their first daughter, Ruby Kathleen, was born the following year, followed by Karen Lynn in 1953. They bought a home on Justin Lane, which at that time was a gravel road near the northern edge of Austin. Around 1960, the family moved to Manchaca, Texas. Norma enrolled in night school and graduated in the same ceremony as her younger sister Carra in Georgetown.
Norma worked days in data processing and nights as a fashion model for local department stores. As time progressed, she gained more and more responsibility at work and became the defacto assistant manager of the company, Statistical Services Corp. (later called STATCO). She met her second husband, Jack C. Anderson, when his business sponsored an event where she had modeled. Norma worked in accounting with Schlotzsky's headquarters, until her retirement.
Norma originally met her third husband, John Sutton, when they both worked for the Department of Public Safety. After over a decade of marriage, they too divorced, but remained friends until his death.
In retirement, she enjoyed travelling, gardening, crosswords and family gatherings.
Norma is survived by her siblings John G. Snowden (Pam) of Georgetown, Carra Elkins of Austin, sister-in-law Bobbie Snowden of Abeline; two daughters Kathy Hoover (David) of Hutto and Karen Cantrell (John) of Blue; grandchildren: Michelle Smith, Anthony Wayne "Bubba" Morgan, Travis "Bart" Morgan, and Maren Ackerman (Michael Sr.). Seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Ruby Snowden, and two brothers Master Sgt. Ben David Snowden (Betty) and Bill Snowden.
