Norma J. Swix was born on March 3, 1940, in Perry, Michigan to the late Roy and Charme (Fowler) Smith, and passed away on August 3, 2025, at the age of 85. Along with her parents Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William "Bill" Swix, siblings, Nancy Moses, Robert "Stub" Smith, Roy James "Jim" Smith, Jr.; stepchildren, William "Bill" Swix Jr., Vicky (Sidney) Laudenslager; great-niece, Gabrielle. Survivors include her siblings, Sandy (Gary) Mueller, Dixie (Vance) Birmingham, Nancy Smith; stepson, Gordon (Connie) Swix; granddaughter, Susan Swix Widener; great-granddaughter, Amber Linn Widener; nieces and nephews, Tammy Lunsford, Nicole Smith, Julie (Will) Birmingham, Matthew (Yelena) Birmingham; great-nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Devon, Layne, Lindsay, and several cousins.

Norma worked in childcare for most of her adult life, helping several local families over the years. Norma was a past member of the Houghton Lake Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was an avid bowler from the time she was in her early 20's to her mid 80's. She competed in many bowling tournaments with her team, and over the years won many trophies. Norma was a one-woman cat rescue, who fed feral cats, and when able to catch them, often paid for them to be neutered and adopted several along the way.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Roscommon Township Hall, 8555 Knapp Road, Houghton Lake, Michigan 48629 starting at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Roscommon County Animal Shelter, 1110 Short Drive, Prudenville, Michigan 48651.
