Norma White Obituary
Norma was born in Hartford, CT during the 1938 hurricane to Jerome & Dorilda Scharlacken. She grew up in East Hartford, CT. and attended East Hartford High School. She was the third oldest of six children, Robert (Rita) Neal, Richard (Joan) Scharlacken, John Scharlacken, Carol Scharlacken and Patricia (Joseph) Orsini.
She met the love of her life Kenneth D. White, Jr. early in the game and in 1957 they married for what was to be an epic 66 yr run. They later resided in Manchester & Glastonbury, CT, Sanibel Island, FL, Ft. Myers, FL and Westerly, RI., making many fond memories with old and new friends along the way.
Norma enjoyed reading, card games, crafting with her good friend Alice Visgilio, and the beach but mostly she could be found on the tennis court or golf course, as evident by the multiple holes in one and tournament wins throughout her life. She always said she was lucky but, indeed, it was her strong faith and mettle that were her core foundation. But the absolute cornerstone to her life was truly her family. Family was EVERYTHING to this matriarch. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever remember all the treasured times spent together, much of it silly and full of laughter. So, so much laughter.
Norma was predeceased by her husband Ken and her daughter Lori Kelliher in 2023. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sister, Robert, John and Carol. She leaves behind her children, Kellie (Tallison) Noble and Michael White; son-in-law John Kelliher; grandchildren, Jamie (Mike) Kolek, Meghan (Tim) Bernabeo, Michael Kelliher, Tally (Natalia Farah) Noble, Taylor (Stephen Bushnell) Noble and Madison White as well as great-grandchildren, Everly Kolek, Emerson Bernabeo, 1 on the way, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00a.m. on Monday, January 19th, 2026 at St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Ave. Westerly, RI with reception to follow. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Smilow Cancer Hospital, P.O. Box 1849 New Haven, CT 06508-1849. Norma was a warm, welcoming, witty and yes a "wild lady". If I had to ascribe a theme song to Norma it would be " Girls Just Want To Have Fun!" Norma never saw life as half full or half empty but " refillable ". Through good and bad moments she was inspiring!
