Norma Jean Wurzer, 84, of West Union, Iowa died Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette, Iowa. She was born March 23, 1941 to Carl and Mathilda (Scholbrock) Baumler in St. Lucas, Iowa. She graduated from St. Luke Catholic School in St. Lucas as the valedictorian. Following graduation Norma worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Norma was united in marriage with Edward Wurzer on May 13, 1961 at St. Luke Catholic Church. Four children were born to this union, Darin, Cheryl, Shelly and Dion. In March of 1963, her and Edward bought their farm where she worked until the early 70's. Norma then worked at Atwood Manufacturing and H&H Distributing until retirement at age 62.
Norma was a faithful member of the St. Lucas Auxiliary and the Holy Name Rosary Society. Her many passions included scrapbooking, genealogy, taking pictures, and documenting special occasions. She had a sweet tooth, a love for music, and a special bond with her sisters, especially enjoying their travels together.
Norma is survived by her husband, Edward of West Union; three children, Cheryl (Stuart) Gage of Rochester, Minnesota, Shelly (Dana) Kellogg of Central City, Iowa and Dion Wurzer of West Union, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Monica Wurzer; grandchildren, Daniel (Raschelle) Wurzer, Sarah (Brian) Tate, Marissa (Marty) Frana, Dalyn (Lucas) Slonaker, Carissa (Kolten) Lukes, Stuart (Daina) Gage, Kelsey (Tre Smith) Kellogg and Kasey Kellogg and eleven great-grandchildren.
Norma was preceded in death by her son, Darin Wurzer.
Norma will be fondly remembered for her humorous sayings. Favorite Normaisms of those who knew and loved her were, am I naughty Norma or nice Norma, having fun and causing trouble, sometimes you need a beer to settle your stomach, if you can't be good then you better to careful, dancing and prancing, and cookie wookie. Norma regularly said bye bye, butterfly as she waved her hand when saying goodbye.
The family would like to thank the staff at Stoney Brook Village, Maplecrest Memory Care, and St. Croix Hospice for the loving care and support they provided to Norma.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 4-7 pm at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home, West Union, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Wednesday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union, Iowa with Rev. Ralph Davis as the Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.
