Norman C. Derick, 79, of Hawthorne, WI went to his eternal home on Thursday, September 28, 2023, surrounded by his wife and family. He fought a valiant battle with COPD.
He was born April 12, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, son of Kathryn (Gunn) and Clark K. Derick. He graduated from Amherst High School, Amherst, Wisconsin and attended UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout and UW-Superior.
On November 16, 1963, Norm, and Millie (Berto) were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Amherst, Wisconsin.
Norm loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing from the time he was a young boy. He also enjoyed wilderness canoe trips and camping with his friends and family. He was an avid curler and curled in many Bonspiels. He enjoyed time with his family, and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren teaching them from his experiences and creating new memories with them. He was an excellent cook and could create or enhance any recipe into a wonderful meal.
After moving to Superior, Norm worked road construction and bartending before starting his career as a clerk for the Soo Line Railroad. Following his retirement, he started his own woodworking business.
Norm was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, The Superior Curling Club, as well as several hunting and fishing groups.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Thomas Derick; Aunt, Esther Biesen; Uncle, Paul Gunn, and Grandsons, Teddy Derick and Billy Derick.
Survivors include his wife of over 59 years, Millie; daughter Kathy; son Ken (Jessie); Grandchildren Brandon (Nina) Derick, Nate (Allison) Derick, Kevin (Abby) Derick, Kathryn (Nick) Rich, Randi Derick (Wally Soyring), Kaiti (Ryan) Magdzas, and great grandchildren Trevor, Caylee, Daemon, Harper, Greysin, Addi, Tyler, Josh, Kayden, and Kali.
A family service with be held at a later date.
