Norman Andrew Parris, age 84 of Webster NC, left this Earth peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2022.   He was youngest of four sons of the late Callin and Vennie (Steadman) Parris.

Norman loved and married Ruth Potts Parris who passed away in May 2003.  He cared for “Boopie” with tenderness and love.  He graduated from Biltmore High School in 1956 and attended Mars Hill College for 2 years before serving in the United States Army for 2 years in Germany.

He was a devoted member of the Webster Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Greeter.  He loved his church and church family dearly.

Norman loved competition power sawing.  He led and competed for many years at WCU Mountain Heritage Day Chainsaw Competition.  Nothing made him happier out on the highway than to get behind a load of logs.  It brought a smile to his face and longing to “cut some firewood”.

Norman was a kind and gentle man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Toby Norman, Stephanie Smith, Jodi Middleton, Dell Pittman; great-grandchildren, Michael, Tanner, Abby Grace; and daughter-in-law, Eunice Pittman. He was surrounded by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly and treasured their memories of “Gomie”.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Ruth (Potts); stepchildren, Elizabeth B. Norman (d. June 2022); Eddie Pittman (d. Sept. 2020); brothers, Noah M. Parris, Loran W. Parris, and M. Neil Parris.

The Family will receive friends from 11:00AM – 12:00PM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Webster Baptist Church, 1955 Webster Rd, Sylva, with a Funeral Service at 12:00PM.  Revs. Scott Carter, Scott Courtney, and David Powell, officiating.   Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Sylva.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Norman’s memory to:  The Gideons International Center, P.O. Box 97251 Washington, DC 20090-7251.
