Norman Nicholas “Nick” Schneider Jr. passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the Hospice House in Tacoma, Washington, surrounded by his beloved wife, Jean, and their children. He was 82 years old.

Born on June 19, 1943, in Watertown, Wisconsin, Nick lived a life defined by service, devotion, and quiet strength. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 26 years, rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CWO4). A skilled submariner, he spent much of his distinguished military career beneath the waves, serving on multiple submarines, earning numerous commendations, and traveling the world. Following his retirement from active duty, Nick continued to contribute to national security as a respected government contractor.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nick was known for his kind heart, sharp mind, and signature sense of humor—often expressed through his ever-ready collection of “dumb dad jokes.” He was a steady, generous presence in the lives of those around him, always willing to lend a hand or share his wisdom. His deep love for his family and unwavering loyalty to friends defined him.

Nick’s greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. He delighted in sharing stories of his Navy days, reading, working puzzles, playing cards and board games, and making memories with his grandchildren. His marriage to his high school sweetheart, Jean, stood as a lifelong testament to love, commitment, and faithfulness.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jean Imig Schneider; children, Danny Gehler, Tony (Jenee) Gehler, and Nikki (Garrett) Fisher; grandchildren, Ashlie (Timmy) Wolcott, Sara (Gary) Cline, Kyle Gehler, Alli Fisher, Eli Fisher, and Luke Fisher; great-grandchildren, Bella Lavook, Sophie Paulus, Rylie Paulus, Serenity Wolcott, and Hudson Cline; siblings, Bill Schneider, Linda Schultz, and David Schneider; lifelong best friend, Paul Fendt; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Nicholas Schneider Sr. and Dorothy E. Harshbarger Schneider.

Nick’s legacy of love, service, and quiet leadership lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be held close in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
