Norman V. Swift

Norman V. Swift 93, of Owensboro, Kentucky, formerly of Ocala, Florida passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Wellington Parc of Owensboro. Norman Veachel Swift was born June 2, 1930 in Moorman, Kentucky to the late Glen Moorman and Jenny Louise Bishop Swift. Norman's life was one rich with experience, laughter, and an abundance of love.
Norman served his country with distinction as a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, embodying the spirit of service and patriotism throughout his life. His early life in Kentucky set the stage for a lifetime of dedication to the land and its creatures. He was a lifelong cattle farmer at heart, with a deep-rooted passion for the outdoors, the beach, horses, and cattle.
After his military service, Norman's industrious nature led him to a diverse career. He worked in financing with Jim Walter Homes, honed his skills as a salesman across various industries, and eventually retired as a long-haul truck driver. His travels as a driver took him through all 48 contiguous states, allowing him to meet countless individuals along the way. Norman never met a stranger; he had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Norman's zest for life extended to his personal interests and hobbies. He had a cherished dog named 'Nike' and often reflected fondly on the joy and companionship they shared. Music and dancing were sources of great pleasure for him, and he was proud to have won a dance contest or two in his time. Norman also enjoyed playing card games with his family and friends, with Triominos being his game of choice. He playfully dubbed himself the 'King of Triominos,' a title he defended with a twinkle in his eye during many a family gathering.
As a member of the Baptist faith, Norman found solace and community in attending services at One Park Place in Owensboro alongside his sister. His faith was a quiet but firm foundation for his life, guiding him through the many seasons of his journey.
Norman's life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures, the importance of family, and the value of a good laugh. His stories, his dances, and his games of Triominos will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Norman Veachel Swift lived a full life, marked by the laughter of his grandchildren, the loyalty of his dog, the beauty of a sunset over his beloved cattle farm, and the countless friendships he cultivated across his ninety-three years.
Norman is survived by two sons, Kim Swift (Robbin) and Dickie Swift (Susan) both of Owensboro; two daughters, Vette Lott (Stanley) of Douglas, Georgia and Inette Gardner (Tommy) of Elberta, Alabama; five grandchildren, Tyler Swift, Elizabeth Bumpus (Jacob), Catherine Forte (Nick), Jordan Swift, and Hayden Stern; 3 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Guyneth Freels and Agnes Long both of Owensboro.
Private family graveside services will be held Sunday, March 24, 2024 at New Hope Cemetery in Muhlenberg County. There will be no public visitation. Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel is handling the arrangements for Norman's family.
