Norwood Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
I have cast my last fishing line, planted my last okra plant, hammered my last nail, watched my last movie, played my last hand of liverpool and dominoes, drank my last Diet Coke, ate my last slice of Cracker Barrel cheese, said my last YES to anything my grandkids have wanted, and remember because I am a Smith I will forever be RIGHT.
Norwood Marshall Smith followed in his father's footsteps by joining the US Army in 1970. Earlier in his life he attended the Wake Tech Engineerinng Program and later graduated to start his career at Carolina Power and Light. Marshall retired from CP&L with 25 plus years to travel, spend time, and care for his late wife Menda. He cherished Sunday family meals that his mom cooked, camping trips to Surf City, and all the pig pickins which brought family together. Marshall was the one his family called on to complete home projects. He always showed up with his tool belt ready to work, offer his supervision, and have a good meal. He danced the night away with his current wife Christine enjoying the love of great beach music. Marshall was also thankful for having great son-in-laws to support and love his daughters. As Gan/Gran (as the grandchildren called him), he enjoyed taking them to the movies and jump park whenever they asked. Everyone that knew Marshall, knew that family was important.
Norwood Marshall Smith lived a full life passing at the age of 75. He was born in Wayne County, NC to the late David Aldon and Norva Gray Porter Smith. In addition to his parents Marshall was preceded in death by his first wife Menda Hocutt Smith; and oldest sister Linda Wall.
Marshall is survived by his wife, Christine Breedlove Smith; his daughters, Michelle Smith (BJ) and Amy Smith Hayden (Jason); stepchildren, Barry Bragg and Michelle Witz; grandchildren Lynnly Brooks, Asher, Jaden, Landon, Grayson, and Wesley; sisters Deborah Westbrook and Diane Boyd (Jerry); brother David Smith (Trudy); and too many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews to count.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 1:00 - 1:45 pm at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2124 Oak Grove Church Rd, Youngsville, NC 27596, where a celebration of Marshall's life will be held at 2:00pm.
