Nova Decker Obituary

Nova Norine Decker, age 91, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on September 26th, 2025. She was born on April 12, 1934, in Success, Arkansas, the third of six children of William Thomas Poe and Dolly Elizabeth Davis.

When Nova's mother passed away, she was 15 years old and took on the responsibility of raising her three younger siblings, the youngest only six months old. Although she was unable to finish high school at the time, Nova never gave up on her education. At the age pf 37, she proudly earned her diploma, an accomplishment she treasured deeply.

At 17, Nova moved to Rockford, Illinois, to find work and support herself. It was there that she met the love of her life, Norman !. Decker. They were married on May 24, 1952, and shared 73 years of marriage together, a true example of lifelong love and devotion. Together they raised five children, including one son, Larry R. Decker, who preceded her in death. Nova's greatest joy was raising her children in the ways of Jesus. Her heart's desire was that each of them would live for Christ until they were reunited with her in Heaven. She loved Jesus more than anything.

Throughout her life, Nova faithfully served as a military wife, minister's wife, Sunday school teacher, Ladies Auxiliary leader, youth leader, song leader, choir member, and worship leader. Always willing to help wherever she was needed, she nonetheless considered being a wife and mother her greatest calling.

Nova also loved reading, crocheting, and embroidering. She created beautiful heirloom pieces until her eyesight was limited by macular degeneration. In her later years, as her health declined due to heart issues and, most recently, a broken leg, her favorite pastime became watching gospel singers and worshipping along with the, from her recliner. She also delighted in simple joys, especially ice cream and donuts, which her son-in-law Richard faithfully kept stocked for her.

Nova was known for her prayers, encouragement, and unwavering faith. She was truly a Christlike woman, embodying the spirit of Proverbs 31. She is called blessed by her children, who will deeply miss her love, prayers, and presence.

She is survived by her beloved husband Norman, their children, 11 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren

Services for Mrs. Decker will be held on Thursday, October 2nd, at the Divine Mercy United Pentecostal Church in Cherokee Village. Visitation will take place from 11:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M., with services beginning at 12:00 P.M. Interment will be held immediately after at Janes Cemetery in Ravenden Springs, Arkansas.
