Nydia Diaz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc. on Jan. 7, 2026.
Nydia Diaz, 70, passed away on January 5, 2026, in Marlboro, New York.
She was born on August 11, 1955, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, to Ramon Diaz Huertas and Maria Esther Vazquez, and was raised by her grandmother, Ramona Huertas, who played an important role in her early life. Nydia later made her home in New York, where she lived and raised her children in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn for more than two decades before moving to Marlboro in the late 1990s.
During those years, she kept house and raised her children while also working at a school and in a neighborhood drugstore. After relocating to Marlboro, she worked for many years in food service within the Marlboro school system.
Nydia approached life with persistence and care. As a wife, partner, mother, and grandmother, she did the best she could, and her efforts were sincere. She cared about her family and held them close in her own way.
For the last twenty years of her life, Nydia shared her home with Thomas "Tommy" Porello, who cared for her with devotion and remained by her side until her passing. She found joy in simple pleasures, especially her love of Betty Boop, and she enjoyed traveling with Tommy, creating memories together along the way.
She was previously married to Alberto Garcia, with whom she raised two children.
Nydia is survived by her son, Jason Garcia, and her daughter, Jessica Garcia; her grandchildren, Brandon and Sarah Brybag, and Phoenix and Raina Garcia; and her brothers, Ramon Diaz and Jose Diaz.
Calling hours will be held on Friday January 9, 2026 from 4:00-7:00pm at the DiDonato Funeral Home 1290 Route 9W Marlboro NY 12542
