Steve Hunter died February 25, 2025 at his home with his wife at his side, from a long fight with a mean bear named cancer.
Born February 21, 1964, he was the second son of Oscar and Lela Hunter of Excelsior Springs. Steve was born in Branson, Missouri and moved to Excelsior as a child. He attended Assembly of God and was a Royal Ranger.
He met his wife of 41 years in Excelsior. He served in the Army and was a supervisior and lead at Gilmour Manufacturing and the pasta factory in Excelsior.
Steve loved hunting and playing with his grandsons. He attended church at Grace Family Worship in Excelsior Springs, where he found and experienced the love of Jesus through his precious church of salvation from eternal damnation and freedom from the judgment and the wrath of God on unrepentant sinners. His favorite verse was Proverbs 1:7 – "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge."
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Oscar Hunter; and his son, Zachary S. Hunter.
Survivors include his mother, Lela Essary Hunter; brothers, Oscar Hunter Jr., Owen Hunter, and Matt Hunter; wife, Shirley; son, Nathaniel; and grandsons, Nathaniel Lee and Steven Arnold Hunter.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 3, 2025, from 10 to 11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at Bross & Spidle Chapels in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. The graveside will follow at Pisgah Cemetery. Lunch provided for the family at the church after burial.
