Odetta Chesnut Scoville, age 87, of Evarts, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
She leaves behind three children, Sherry Helton of Cawood, KY, Ricky Scoville & wife Shelia of East Bernstadt, KY, Gary Scoville & wife Wanda of East Bernstadt, KY; two siblings, Elmo Lee Chesnut & wife Peggy, Lena Rose Branstetter & husband Bert, both of East Bernstadt, KY; eight grandchildren, David Scoville, Scott Scoville, Angie Blanton, Caleb Helton, Heather Johnson, Kesha Brummett, Robbie Hutton, Areia Honeycutt; eighteen great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren; plus a host of other family and friends to cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Scoville; her parents, George & Lily Buckles Chesnut; her son, Charles Ray Scoville; and by her son-in-law, Ted Helton.
Odetta was a devoted caregiver whose compassion touched many lives. She worked at Harlan Nursing Home for more than 18 years, where she was known for her kindness, patience, and the gentle way she cared for others. Earlier in her life, Odetta also spent time working in day care, showing the same love and attention to children that she did to everyone around her.
She was a faithful member of Yocum Creek Baptist Church in Evarts, Kentucky, where she found strength and fellowship in her faith. Odetta's life was marked by service, love, and quiet dedication - both to her work and to the people she cherished most.
Her family and friends will remember her for her warm smile, her steady faith, and her caring heart that never wavered.
A funeral service honoring Odetta Chesnut Scoville will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Donald Tackett officiating. Interment will follow at Murry Cemetery in East Bernstadt, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour, also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
