Remembering Ofelia Sherlock
Ofelia Sherlock, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025. Ofelia, also known as Faye or Shorty, was the beloved oldest daughter of Fernando and Otilia Cruz. She was a long-time resident of Dearborn, Michigan, and 1948 graduate of Fordson High School. After the passing of her second husband, she moved in with her son and daughter-in-law caregivers. She lived with them for ten years in South Carolina, and her last four years with them in Titusville, Florida.
She is survived by her sisters Carmen (Bev) Forey, Angeline (Lane) Hicks, Margaret (Maggie) Drennon, Rose (Rosa) Cruz, and Christine (Tina) and husband Mike Nicastro, as well as her two sons; Randy Smith and wife Carol, and Robert Smith and wife Bryn, four granddaughters; Jesse and husband Scotty Wiesel, Jenny and husband Rob Schell, and Faye and Franny Clarke-Smith, and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph Cruz and Daniel Cruz, and her sister Josephine (Fina) Wood. She was also twice widowed, loving wife of James Smith and James Sherlock.
Faye's spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. Throughout the years, she enjoyed baking, bowling, doing puzzles, watching soap operas and old movies, and slot machines. She was kind and generous, fun loving, and a good friend to many.
Per her wishes, private funeral services with her family will be held at Baldwin Brothers in Titusville on June 3rd at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Ofelia to Detroit Goodfellows (https://detroitgoodfellows.org). She always remembered them for bringing new shoes and a toy to their family at Christmas. Donations may also be directed to St. Francis Reflections Hospice (https://reflectionslsc.org/), who helped provide loving care for her in recent months.
Rest in peace, Faye, mom, grandma, GG. You were loved more than words can express and can never be replaced in the hearts of those who loved you.
