Oliver John Fleming, a cherished soul whose life, though brief, was marked by an extraordinary capacity to bring joy and love to those around him, passed away on May 15, 2025, at UW Madison Hospital. Born on October 1, 2024, to proud parents Jordan McGuire and Lukas Fleming, Oliver's arrival was a blessing that enriched the lives of his family. Oliver was baptized on October 6, 2024.
From the moment he entered this world at Meriter Hospital, Oliver's beautiful smile and long fluttering eyelashes captured the hearts of everyone he met. He was a fighter from the start, demonstrating strength and courage that inspired all who knew him. His family fondly recalls how Oliver would flirt with the nurses, charming them with his gentle spirit and infectious grin.
Oliver's love for life was evident in his daily activities. He cherished the sound of his mother's voice, finding comfort and joy in the stories family read to him, especially his favorite book, "Busy Little Tractor." His music box was a source of delight, its melodies a soothing presence in his room. Bath time was a treasured ritual, where Oliver reveled in the sensation of water, and being held was his ultimate solace, his tiny hands grasping lovingly onto those of his family members.
He was the blessed son of Jordan McGurie and Lukas Fleming of Camp Douglas. He was the beloved grandson of maternal grandparents Christy (Mark) Toelle of New Lisbon, and Roger McGuire (Rachel Edgerton) of Faribault, MN, as well as paternal grandparents John (Janice) Fleming of Camp Douglas. Oliver's extended family included his aunts and uncles, Alicia (Nick) Wyss, Morgan (Trever) Reichhoff, Carmella McGuire, Heather (Jeramie) Malecki, Sam Fleming, Jacob Fleming, Benjamin (Alex) Fleming, Alyson Fleming, and Lia Fleming, his step-uncles and aunts, Mason, Marshal (Marissa and family) and Isabel Toelle. His cousins Lucie, Lilley and Brantley Wyss, Kyler, Kamden, and Kooper Reichhoff shared in the joy of his presence. He was also the cherished great-grandson of Ken (Marcia) Adams, Roger (Margie) McGuire, Sue McGuire and James Johnson. Oliver's legacy is one of love and the gentle touch he brought to his family's lives. He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandmother, Jeri Johnson, and great-grandparents Evelyn (John) Fleming, as well as his maternal great-grandparents Dale (Rosie) Toelle. Each of them, no doubt, would have been enchanted by Oliver's loving nature had they crossed paths in this life.
In his short time with us, Oliver taught those around him about the resilience of the human spirit and the profound impact of unconditional love. His family will forever remember the way he listened intently, how he loved to be cradled, and the peace he found in the simple act of holding hands. Oliver's life, though fleeting, was a testament to the fact that the length of one's journey is not a measure of the love one can give or receive.
Oliver John Fleming, a gentle and courageous soul, was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be treasured as a reminder of the preciousness of life and the enduring power of love. Oliver's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his family, guiding them with the memory of his loving presence.
