Oliver Eugene George, 91, of Live Oak, FL, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025. Born March 2, 1934, in Williamsville, Illinois, to Grover and Della George, Oliver lived a long and fulfilling life devoted to service, laughter, and family. He is now reunited with his beloved wife and best friend of 63 years, Joyce George, whom he cherished deeply.
Oliver served the community of Live Oak for many years as the Animal Control Officer and also as a school bus driver for the Suwannee County School Board. Known for his warm heart and quick wit, he brought smiles to many through his jokes and playful spirit. He was a true tinkerer at heart, spending hours crafting birdhouses from old license plates and bits of wood-each one a testament to his creativity and care.
He is survived by his son, Gregory "Jay" George (Dee) of Live Oak, FL; his daughter, Karen Gaylard (David) of Morriston, FL; and his sister, Bertie Powell. Oliver's legacy also lives on in his grandchildren: Dustin Welsh, Tara Baker, Barry Welsh, Kara George, David Gaylard, Jr., Hannah George, and Addie Harrell; his great-grandchildren: Dakota Welsh, Devin Welsh, Demi Welsh, Tylar Baker, Hunter Denmark, Jayde Baker, Kayleigh Denmark, Nora Welsh, Paisley Wilkinson, and Evelyn Welsh; and his great-great-grandchildren: Braxton Lee Welsh, Ava Lynn Welsh, Levi Eugene Welsh, and Dallas Lane Welsh. He will also be lovingly remembered by his devoted caregiver, Phyllis Wilkinson.
Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce George; his parents, Grover and Della George; his son, Howard Eugene Welsh; and his daughter, Kara George.
Oliver's life will be honored at a memorial service on June 12, 2025 at Brody Harris Memorial Chapel at Harris Funeral Home in Live Oak, FL at 5:00 p.m. A time of visitation will be held just before the service at 4:00 p.m.
Oliver will be remembered for his humor, his helping hands, and his unwavering love for his family. His memory will live on in the laughter he inspired and the many lives he touched.
