Oliver Singleton (Ollie) passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, after an
extended illness. He was 86.
Ollie was born on March 5, 1936, in Richmond, Virginia. He attended and
played football at the University of Richmond. His love of cars became his
life-long vocation as an entrepreneur in the automotive business. Ollie
moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he met and married his wife of 47 years,
Ida Singleton. Ollie and Ida traveled throughout the world and became
seasonal residents of the North Georgia mountains and Florida. In addition
to travel, Ollie loved to cook. He is well known for his famous spaghetti with
meatballs. Ollie enjoyed gardening, horticulture, and birdwatching. He was
an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves as well as the University of Georgia and
the Atlanta Falcons football teams.
Ollie is survived by: his wife Ida Singleton of Jacksonville, Florida, and his
sister June Wilson of Deltona, Florida; his daughters Donna Singleton of
Springfield, Georgia, Karen Newton of Dunnellon, Florida, and Wanda
Whaley of Dawsonville, Georgia; his sons George Jones and wife Jewell of
Richmond, Virginia and Jimmy White and wife Debbie of Atlantic Beach,
Florida. His long and productive life yielded grandchildren Travus White,
Paige Phillips (Danny), Christopher Jones (Jasmine), Taylor Valadez
(Joseph), Erica Mann (John), Mackenzie McGuire (Wes), Austin Anastasia,
Ryan Newton, and Clayton Orr, plus great-grandchildren Tyler and Noah
Jones, Isabella, Luca, and Blakely Valadez.
He is predeceased by his father Oliver Sr., mother Mildred, and sisters
Faye and Janice.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Isle of Faith United
Methodist Church at 1821 San Pablo Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32224 on
Saturday, November 12, at 11:00 am, with a reception following the service.
