Olivia Nelson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 6, 2025.
Olivia Owen Nelson, known by most as Mimi, 78 years old of Fortson, GA took her last breath at the Columbus Hospice House on Saturday, April 5th at 9:59am. She was greeted by Jesus in heaven and reunited with her husband, Eugene "EB" Nelson of 62 years.
She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to anyone who met her. She will be missed greatly by many. Anyone who ever met Olivia, could tell you that she was one of the sweetest, kindest and most loving women.
Olivia Owen Nelson, was born January 14 1947 in Columbus, Georgia to Catherine Grace Owen and Collier David Owen. She was survived by her two children, Andrew Nelson (Amy) and Cathy Langfitt (Terry). Her grandchildren, Hayli Price (James), Drew Nelson, Kassidy Nelson, Olivia "Gracie" Nelson, Terry Langfitt Jr. (Ashleigh), Kimberly Langfitt, Austin Langfitt and Zackery Langfitt. Her great grandchildren, Emma and Jackson Price, Kylie and Kylan, and Aaron and Rowan Langfitt.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Eugene "EB" Nelson, her parents, three brothers (Mike, Tommy and Marc), and her son Michael Eugene Nelson. She is also survived by many other family members, cousins, nephews and nieces.
She retired from Southern Bell with 30+ years of service. She was a lifelong member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served in many different capacities, including the Sunday School secretary for several years.
She was a very loving and hands-on grandmother and great grandmother. She helped raise all of her grandchildren and there was nothing she loved more than being with them. She loved her entire family more than anything and made sure we all knew it. She loved to cook, decorate, and host her family and friends. She was very generous and her love language was gift giving and making everyone feel special. She was a devoted Christian and one of her favorite Bible verses was Isaiah 41:10; So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 20 GA-315 Fortson, GA 31808. The family will accept visitors beginning at 1pm with a service following at 2pm. We hope that you can join us to celebrate the wonderful person that she was.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church to the Olivia Nelson Memorial Fund. Please make checks payable to Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Olivia was a dear friend. I know how much she loved her amazing family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Olivia had a beautiful singing voice and we convinced her to sing in our ladies trio for a while. She never was comfortable doing that, but she did it for her friends and to honor her Lord. She finally gave it up, but we loved every minute of hearing that beautiful soprano voice.
She and Gene were such a precious couple. We enjoyed every moment we shared together as friends and coworkers at church.
Cathy and Andy, I know you will miss your mother but she leaves such a great legacy. It is comforting to know that Olivia doesn´t have to suffer the pains of this earth any longer. Look forward to the day you will see her again.
