Olivine Andrews, age 89, died at her home near Sault Ste. Marie surrounded by her husband of nearly 70 years and many of her loved ones June 23, 2023. She was born November 16, 1933, in Somerset Kentucky to Clarence Elias Burton and Nellie Dee Burton
Olivine earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education while raising 4 children, teaching, and working as a farm wife. She started her career at Bruce Township School before it became a part of the Sault Schools. While there she taught her 2 youngest sons who were to call her Mrs. Andrews and her niece and nephew who called her Aunt Olibean.
She enjoyed refinishing old furniture, attending her grand and great grandchildren's activities and reading to them or teaching them cards or checkers. Olivine was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Tau, an honorary teacher's society for 53 years.
She was reserved in a group, kind, and especially loved children. Olivine was intensely loyal and proud of her family. She believed in women's rights and was a lady, we never heard her swear.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, and sisters Lenard Clark Burton, Hellen Linnie Shultz, Clarence Elias Burton Jr., Robert Harold Burton, Dorothy Christine Bowerman, Lucille Dean Thurston, Joyce Louise Avery, and her twin Chestine Parks. And one son, Alan John Andrews and daughter- in- law Mary Beth (Balog) Andrews
Survivors include her husband Gordon Andrews, children, Karen (David) Blaskowski, Michael (Rebecca Miller) Andrews, and Timothy Andrews and her many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will take place at 1:00 PM on July 23, 2023, at the Bruce Township Hall. Interment will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township by her Son Alan.
Those who wish to remember Olivine in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Chippewa County Hospice or My Michigan -Sault for the excellent and caring way they treated her and her family in this difficult time.
