It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ollie Virginia Major, age 84, on September 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on November 1, 1940, in Jefferson Springs, Arkansas, to Irene Arnold Smith. Ollie was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Olevia and Sherman Arnold. She was brought up in the Catholic faith community, which shaped the values of compassion, devotion, and resilience that guided her throughout her life.
In 1959, Ollie married the love of her life, Raymond Major Sr, and together they shared many wonderful years of marriage. Their love and companionship remain a cherished example for their family. In this union, Ollie became the proud mother of three beautiful children: daughters Lenise Jenkins and Sylvia (Elaine) Chambers and a son, Raymond Major Jr.
She leaves behind a cherished legacy in her 9 grandchildren: Virginia Chambers, Cassandra Chambers, Lenisha Barber, Donald Chambers III, Gary Jenkins Jr., Sharay Abernathy, Raymond Major III, Jasmine Jenkins, and Ayesha Jenkins; and 3 beloved great-grandchildren: Kayden Butler, Sedrick Graves Jr., and Gabby Barber. She is also survived by her loving siblings: Irene White, Deborah Smith, Brady Smith, and Mark Smith.
Though she experienced the profound loss of her husband and two of her children, her love for her family never faltered and only grew deeper with time. Ollie was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Major, daughters Lenise Jenkins and Elaine Chambers, her mother Irene Arnold Smith, her grandparents Olevia and Sherman Arnold, and siblings, James McCoy, Jerry Velyines, Roy Velyines, Alvin Smith, Katie Wilkerson, Olevia Smith, Roxanne Smith, and Sarah Smith. Family was the center of Ollie's world. She was happiest when her home was filled with laughter, storytelling, and the warmth of those she loved. She was known for her love of family trips and holiday gatherings with her daughters and grandchildren, her sense of humor, visiting the local slots as a pass time and loving on her dog Lacey. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family invites all friends and loved ones for this celebration of Ollie's life on September 26, 2025. Her love, lessons, and legacy will carry forward through the generations she nurtured. She is gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Ollie, please visit our floral store.
