Olufunmilola Adeola Adedokun, known affectionately as Lola, will be remembered as a beacon of compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving marginalized communities worldwide. Born on October 3rd, 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia,
Lola embarked on a remarkable journey that touched lives across continents. Lola earned an undergraduate degree in sociology from Dartmouth College, a master's degree in public health from Columbia University and a certificate in Global Health Effectiveness from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Lola sprung forward with dedicated commitment to a career advocating for the well-being of women and children in Africa, America and around the world.
Lola's impactful work spanned across the non-profit sector, her latest notably as the Executive Director for the Aspen Global Innovators Group and Co-Chair of the Aspen Forum on Women and Girls. Her tireless efforts for organizations like the Doris Duke Foundation for over 14 years showcased her unwavering commitment to improving outcomes and transforming lives.
Lola's work took her all over the world to distant lands, where she left an indelible mark on public health initiatives, her colleagues around the world, and the lives of the many people her work served. Among her most cherished accomplishments was fostering lasting friendships, both near and far, and making a profound impact on communities worldwide.
Lola's legacy of compassion and dedication will be carried forward by her surviving family members: her beloved father, Emmanuel Adedokun; mother, Catherine Adedokun; older brother, Lanre (Annie), and younger brother; Wale. She was the most cherished aunt to her two nephews; Jonah and Levi and the heart and soul of her family.
In celebration of Lola's remarkable life, funeral services and ceremonies are scheduled to take place in the coming days. A Visitation will be held at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel in Peachtree Corners, Georgia on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 7:00 pm, followed by another Visitation on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm. The Funeral Service will commence at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 3:00 pm, with a Reception following at 4:00 pm.
Although Lola's physical presence has departed, her spirit and legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Lola was a dedicated advocate for overlooked communities, seeing the amplification of their voices not merely as a priority, but as a responsibility. Well-known for her profound compassion, sharp sense of humor, and steadfast commitment to justice and opportunity. Her legacy is one of resilience, empathy, and a profound belief in the power of inclusion. She leaves behind a blueprint of what it means to lead with both heart and purpose, inspiring all of us to continue her work and honor her vision.

There's a powerful Aboriginal quote currently featured in a Madayin exhibition at Asia Society that makes us think of Lola. It speaks of flowers blossoming as reminders of the spirits of those who came before, who will bloom again. Like those blossoms, Lola´s legacy will continue to flower through every dialogue we foster, and every bridge we build between cultures.

Warmly,
Henrietta Fore and Peggy Clark
