Clavin Funeral Home - BrooklynOlympia Marie Mottola passed away peacefully in her home on February 6th, 2026, due to complications from cardiomyopathy. She was 84.
Born on May 18th, 1941, in Bay Ridge Hospital to Ralph Mottola and Frances Aloia, Olympia grew up in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, the oldest of three children. She attended Bay Ridge High School, where she made lifelong friends and remained active in the alumni association until her death. She attended college at LIU Brooklyn and went on to attend medical school at SUNY Downstate, graduating in 1967 with specialties in internal medicine and nephrology. Olympia completed her residency in nephrology at Brooklyn Hospital, where she continued to work as an attending doctor and serve on the medical board. She went on to run the dialysis unit of Cumberland Hospital and served as the medical director of Greenpark Care Center, a skilled nursing facility, in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, for 25 years from 1978 until her retirement in 2003.
An avid reader throughout her life, Olympia enjoyed English literature and mystery novels, particularly British mysteries as she was a true anglophile. She enjoyed traveling, abroad to England and Italy and domestically to Ogonquit Maine, where she went near-annually with her husband and sister. At home, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and other word games, watching British television shows, and both indoor and outdoor gardening. A creature of habit, Olympia’s favorite restaurants were Vesuvio in Bay Ridge and Junior’s in downtown Brooklyn.
Olympia is survived by her husband, John, her daughter, Sarah, and her sister, Maria. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph, in 2020.
A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday May 23rd, 2026, at 12:30pm at St. Anselm R.C Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
