Omer Samyn Sr.

Omer Samyn, Sr born September 13, 1928, to Petrus and Irma Samyn passed away on February 18, 2025. Along with his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Samyn, Omer was a long-standing resident of Dearborn, Michigan where he spent many days walking his beloved dogs. Loving father of Omer (Cari), Michael (Dorothy), Andrew (Angela) and the late Thomas A. Samyn. Dearest grandfather of Casey, Carly, Kyle (Danielle), Michael (Nina) and Sarah (Craig). Loving great grandfather of Isabella, Gabriella and Nikolas. Omer was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Peter and Julia and is survived by many other loving families and friends.
Omer honored his service to his country in the US Army. Having trained in Wisconsin at Camp McCoy in 1950, he was stationed in Germany and France between 1950-1952 as a PFC 470th Engineer. While overseas, Omer took the opportunity to enjoy liberty by visiting Belgium where his ancestors called home.
Utilizing his talent as a tool and die maker, Omer worked for General Motors on Fort Street in Detroit at the Fischer Body plant. After 43 years of service, he retired but not fond of sitting still he became employed as a security officer at Henry Ford Museum, a service he performed for another 25 years. His strong work ethic and willingness to earn what he needed to provide for his family has been instilled in his children.
In his free time, Omer loved to pack Betty in a car and see the United States. He also loved dogs, bowling, golfing and playing poker with his buddies. He also cherished the family cabin at Houghton Lake where he took walks in the woods and taught his sons how to fish. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation Monday, February 24, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dearborn Chapel of the Voran Funeral Home, 23701 Ford Road. (313) 278-5100. Funeral service Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment St. Hedwig Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Meals on Wheels (Dearborn) and the Michigan Humane Society.
