Opal M. Dillard, 87, of Cashiers passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Eckerd Living Center. Opal was a native of Jackson County and a daughter of the late Brack and Elsie Stewart McCoy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Dillard, who passed away in 1993; one sister, Ruth McCoy; three brothers, Jack, Don and Buddy McCoy; and one son Johnny Young.
Opal enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid reader. She loved caring for children and took care of the nursery at the Cashiers United Methodist Church for several years. During her later years she transformed her love of animals into a job pet-sitting and was very involved at the Cashiers Senior Center.
She is survived by a brother, Gary McCoy (Frances) her daughters, Paula Ware (Alec) and Annette Herstek (Rob); two grandchildren, Courtney Cline (Nick) and Austin Herstek (Allison); and one great-granddaughter Evelyn Cline.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Upper Zachary Cemetery soon with her brother, Gary McCoy, officiating.
