Opal L. Jackson Trivette passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at her home in Corbin, Kentucky.
Opal grew up in Evarts, KY, in Harlan County. She had a wonderful group of friends from Evarts High School, Class of 1960, with whom she still kept in touch. She met her beloved husband, Jim, at EKU, and they were married on January 13, 1962. She was a devoted and loving wife and partner for 53 years.
She was a saint of Grace on the Hill Community Church (formerly 1st United Methodist Church). Since 1973, she has served the Lord joyfully and faithfully, teaching many adult and youth classes. She and Jim traveled to many churches, conducting Life in the Spirit seminars, teaching about the person and work of the Holy Spirit. She was involved in every aspect of our church, including pastor support, welcoming new attenders, leading our prayer chain, volunteering in our office, serving communion, visiting and praying for the sick, and a host of other ministries through the years.
Opal loved her family and friends dearly, all who are heartbroken. We will miss her prayers on our behalf, because she was a prayer warrior! We will miss her stories, which she loved to tell, especially about how she met Jim and all the many ways God has been present in her life. Opal loved to spend time in prayer and reading God’s Word each day. She was always up for a good road trip, trying out new places to eat. She loved her UK Wildcats (especially football) and was a huge NFL fan. Friday nights in the fall would find her at a Corbin Redhound football game, where she loved a good chili dog!
There is no doubt where our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-Christ, and friend is now! We will see you again, Opal! Thank you for always pointing everyone you met to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Well done, thou good and faithful servant!
She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" E. Trivette; parents, Opel Jackson and Daisy Kinder Burgan; and her “second mom,” Aunt Lin (Linda) Jackson.
Opal is survived by her children, James Chase Trivette (Amy) and Kimberly Hamlin (Stuart); her grandchildren, Dr. Gary Addison Hamlin, Joseph Warren Hamlin, and Chloe Elise Trivette; and her great grandchildren, Darci Hamlin, Heath Hamlin, Grant Hamlin, and Walt Hamlin, along with their mother, Sandra Hamlin.
Visitation for Opal will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Grace on the Hill Community Church, 1632 Cumberland Falls Highway, Corbin, Kentucky. Her Celebration of Life service will take place on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., also at Grace on the Hill Community Church, with Gordon McClure and Ric Holliday officiating.
Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin, KY.
