Ophelia Hattie Adams, age 97, peacefully passed away at her residence at the Plaza at Edgemere, Dallas, Texas on July 1st, 2025.
Ophelia was born January 1st, 1928, on her uncle's farm just outside of Madisonville Texas. Though her father died while she was very young, Ophelia was raised by a wonderful, hard-working mother, grandparents and many aunts and uncles. Throughout her years she lived in Madisonville, Normangee, Huntsville, Sour Lake, Nederland, Lafayette, Shreveport, the Houston area, Farmers Branch and finally, since 2019, in Dallas.
Ophelia was employed as both a substitute and staff teacher in various schools throughout Texas with the bulk of her teaching years spent teaching business subjects and typing at R.L. Turner High School in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District. She retired from Turner High in the 1980s and spent the following years traveling throughout the country with her husband, Skeet Adams, and making a happy home for her family to visit. Ophelia attended church at Farmers Branch Bible Church and Believers Chapel in Dallas. A talented pianist, she frequently performed for church services and bible study classes. Her children grew up with music in the home and most memorable were the songs Ophelia played on the upright piano she received at the age of 5 from her mother.
She enjoyed being a skilled seamstress and made clothing for herself throughout her life as well as for her children, grandchildren and others. She enjoyed making blankets which were donated to the local hospitals for newborn children. Ophelia also enjoyed refinishing furniture, some of which the family continues to enjoy and treasure today. She also enjoyed cooking the family's favorite meals and was known far and wide for her strawberry shortcake.
Ophelia is survived by
Her daughter Mary Kaye Adams and husband Barrie (Morro Bay, CA), her son Chuck Adams and wife Sherry (Gainesville, FL), her son Kerry Adams and wife Vicki (Dallas, TX).
Her grandchildren include Sam Adams and wife Sharon, Tom Adams and wife Amanda, Lindsey Zimmer and husband Tyler, and Cole Adams.
Her great grandchildren include Stella, Savanah, Sawyer (parents Sam and Sharon); and Evie and Skyler (parents Tom and Amanda).
Her brother-in-law, Carl Wayne Adams and wife Carol and their children and grandchildren.
Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Odice "Skeet" Adams.

I worked with Ophelia at R. L. Turner. She was a sweet lady.

Mrs. Adams was the kindest, gentlest soul. She patiently taught us RLTurner students typing and actually discussed a potential job for me at Oak Cliff Bank (she was a great teacher and I was, and still am, a great typist, thanks to her). Glad you had such a nice life and a fabulous family. The world is a better place. Thanks for seeing promise in me.
