Ms. Ophelia Rainey Butler was born into this life on February 9, 1946 in Memphis, TN to the late Walter P. Rainey and Helen Little Rainey. A family that wrapped her with an abundance of love.
Ophelia was a loving Mother, and Grandmother, until she departed this life on Wednesday December 20, 2023. She is preceded in death by close friends Andrew Butler Jr., and Jerry Myers.
Ophelia was educated at Manassas H.S. Memphis, TN, Fisk University, B.S., Nashville, TN University of TN, M.S., Knoxville, TN Tennessee State University MSSW, Nashville, TN. She also achieved the following credentials Master of Science in Social Work, MSSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker-LCSW, Academy of Certified Social Worker-ACSW
Ophelia worshipped at the Temple Church before her illness. She was employed with the State Department for many years before going into Medical Private Practice
(Myers, Butler and Associates Counseling Services, Inc.).
Ophelia was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (Fisk University) and several Social Worker Organizations.
Ophelia enjoyed reading, gardening, and watching murder mysteries. Most importantly spending time with her grandson. Ophelia had a giving spirit. She loved to volunteer her time at many assisted living facilities in the Nashville area.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son Andrew Butter III, her daughter Danielle Butler a devoted Grandson Damon Hodge Jr., other relatives and friends that loved her dearly.
