Ora Belle Mack Cummings was born on March 6, 1936, in
Columbia, SC the beloved daughter of the late Deacon Henry Mack and late Mazie Mack. Ora departed this earthly life on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in
Columbia, South Carolina.
Ora was educated in the Richland County Public School system, and she was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1955. She attended Benedict College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Ora was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
Her passion for education and business studies paved the way for her teaching career at C.E. Murray High School in Greeleyville, SC, where she served as the Business Education teacher. Ora was a skilled and impactful educator who focused on inspiring others to reach their full potential. She positively impacted a multitude of students. Former students, with whom she stayed in touch, frequently invited her to class reunions and events that celebrated the positive influence she had on their lives. During their 60th Anniversary Reunion, alumni recognized her with the 'One Person Can Make a Difference' award.
Ora embarked on her professional career with the South Carolina State Government. Her expertise of Business Education and profound administrative skills allowed her to showcase her 'Shorthand' writing skills along with other impressive abilities. She built a successful career with SC State Government and excelled in her position as a Recruiter. In this role, she provided sound advice and helped countless individuals with launching their careers. When offering advice to others, she often used the phrase, "just get your foot in the door." After more than 25 years of service, Ora retired in 2001.
Ora was a loyal and dedicated member of Zion Chapel Baptist Church #2. She served on the Usher Board and Jubilee choir. She was honored with awards from her church for her unwavering commitment and exemplifying the true spirit of a Women of Grace. She was a true believer in Christ and his teachings. Ora remained steadfast in her faith until her earthly departure.
Ora was independent, strong-willed, yet humble. She embraced life with a sweet spirit. She was loving, kind, and had a magnetic smile. She always offered uplifting words when she felt someone needed encouragement. She would often write notes and jot down scriptures and mail them to family members. She cherished her family deeply and found joy in the company of loved ones, and spending time with family during reunions. As an engaged community member, she often participated in events at Greenview Park. She relished the time spent with her grandchildren and the joyous celebrations of their special milestones and achievements. She will be missed by all those who loved and knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mazie Mack, father, Deacon Henry Mack, sisters, Verneal James and Loretta Dash, brother, Freddie Mack (Alberta), her beloved son, James Cummings Jr.
Those who remain to cherish her fond and loving memories are her children; son, Kevin (Indira) Cummings; daughter, Lisa Robinson; grandchildren, Brevin Robinson, Brian Robinson, Kincaid Cummings, Bailee Robinson, and Graeson Cummings; devoted cousins, nieces and nephews, and many other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom rejoice that she is now resting.
