Oralee Archer Obituary Oralee Archer grew up in Parkersburg West Virgina, with her parents (Oral and Evelyn
Richardson) and five siblings (Christine, Bruce, Ginger, Linda, and Joyce), though for part of
her childhood she lived with her Aunt Seay. After graduating from Parkersburg High School
she married Roy Archer in 1957. His service in the Army took them away from West Virginia,
and they eventually settled in Escondido, California. There she raised her three children
(Kraig, Shawnna, and Thomas). We, her children, remember many occasions when she
tended to our well-being: organizing birthday parties, bringing pets to our class show-and-
tells, transporting us to activities, taking us to church, and staying up after midnight to type our
school reports. She also tended to our spiritual well-being.
Our mother was a strong woman of faith. Beginning in the 1970s she assisted the Rev.
Merlin Carothers, typing and editing several of his books on the power of praise, including one
for which she contributed the title, "More Power to You". She indeed tapped into that power
and grace and passed on to us her genuine faith. She taught her children to pray with faith,
and when we were young, she read to us the scriptures; our lives have been guided and
sustained by this same faith in Christ.
So Oralee was a kind and giving mother. She also loved and prayed for her eight
grandchildren (Andrew, Chelsea, Kelly, Shane, John, Michael, Gillian, and Megan). In her
retirement years Oralee moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to her children and
grandchildren, all of whom settled outside California. She also was proud of and showed
faithful care to her Benji-look-alike dog, Bandit.
Over the years Oralee grew as a gifted portrait artist and received a Bachelor's degree
in Art from San Diego State University. She enjoyed working on art projects and checking out
art gallaries. She also was a reader and a collector of books. She especially studied and
applied her learning in the field of wholistic health. For a decade in the 1990s she worked for
the wholistic health focused Center for Advanced Medicine in Encinitas, California. She
certainly understood the power of God to heal. Even with health issues, in this last decade of
her earthly life, she was remarkably positive, active, and blessed. God was faithful to her,
especially in the hard times.
A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home in Colorado Springs on
July 10th at 11 AM (visitation beginning at 10:30 AM). A graveside service will follow at
Evergreen Cemetery.
