Oren Olinger Obituary
He was born on November 13,1942 in Rushville, the son of Raymond "Sam" and Ella Agnes (Reynolds) Olinger and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1961.
Oren attended Purdue University and later graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry. After graduating, he moved to Muncie and joined Dr. Morton Roth in his optometric practice. After several expansions, the practice became Family Vision Care. Dr, Olinger retired after forty-six years of servicing his patients and their families.
Dr. Olinger served as President of the Indiana Optometric Association and as President of the Ball State University Cardinal Varsity Club. He was also a faithful member of High Street United Methodist Church.
Oren was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing along with supporting Ball State Athletics. He enjoyed many years spent on Fripp Island, South Carolina, along with traveling in general. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-one years, Mary Ann Olinger; two daughters, Ann Branham and Beth Jacoby (Jonathan); grandchildren Hank, Gus, and Evelyn Jacoby; sister-in-law Shirley Olinger; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mike Worley; a brother, Charles Olinger; sister-in-law, Susie Olinger; and his parents.
Cremation will take place, and a celebration of life will be held in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to High Street United Methodist Church or the charity of the donors' choice.
