Orlando Delgado

Orlando Delgado, 79, of Estero, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2025, at Baptist Hospital in Miami after suffering a medical emergency on Christmas Eve.

Orlando was born on November 11, 1946, in Guantánamo, Cuba, the son of the late Maximiliano and Julia (Torres) Delgado. He attended grammar school in Guantánamo and later continued his education after coming to the United States. In 2006, Orlando became a resident of Estero, Florida, after many years living in Miami.

In 1968, Orlando made a courageous escape from Cuba by swimming to the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base and climbing the fence into American territory. Later that year, while living in New Jersey, he was reunited with his future wife, Mireya, who had fled Cuba through Spain before arriving in New Jersey. The two were married in 1969.

In 1974, Orlando and Mireya moved to Miami with their two children, Claudie and Orlando, Jr. In 1978, they welcomed their third child, Guillermo.

After attending college in New Jersey, Orlando began his career in the United States working at a gas station, eventually becoming its owner. He was the embodiment of the American Dream-arriving in this country with nothing but determination and building a successful life as an entrepreneur, owning gas stations in both New Jersey and Miami. Through his hard work and sacrifice, he provided his children with the opportunity to attend college, and all earned degrees.

Orlando is survived by his two beloved children, Claudie Delgado-Feeney of Estero, Florida, and Orlando Delgado, Jr. of Miami, Florida; and his six cherished grandchildren, Justin Feeney, Sofia Feeney, Aiden Feeney, Dylan Feeney, Lucas Delgado, and Olivia Delgado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 53 years, Mireya M. Delgado, who passed away on May 16, 2023; and his son, Guillermo "Guille" Delgado, who passed away on July 30, 2015.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 5400 SW 102nd Ave., Miami, Florida. Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Memorial Garden, 625 111th Ave. N., Naples, Florida.
