Orlando Mussenden, a resident of Fishkill, NY since 2015, formerly of Yonkers, NY and Puerto Rico, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 69.
Son of the late Jorge Mussenden and Manuela Arce, he was born in San Juan, PR on May 2, 1954. A graduate of Baldorioty High School, Orlando enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1975 and was honorably discharged in 1979. In 1987, he reenlisted and served an additional 15 years. He was honorably discharged once again in 2003 as Sergeant First Class. Orlando was the recipient of several recognitions including the Army Commendation, Achievement, Good Conduct, National Defense Service, and Armed Forces Reserved Medals; as well as Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development and Army Service Ribbons; and Sharpshooter Badge.
In 2017, he retired from the V.A. Hudson Valley Health Care Campus at Castle Point, where we worked as a locksmith. Orlando was a car enthusiast and he loved to spend time fixing things throughout the house and always came up with new projects.
Survivors include his wife, Carmen M. Gomez, at home in Fishkill, NY; his son, Joshua Mussenden of Puerto Rico; his son, Arturo Mussenden of Fishkill, NY; his stepson, Roberto Ribadeneira & his wife Maria of Fishkill, NY; his grandchildren, Kimberly, Jeremy, and Randy Ribadeneira; his sisters, Carmen Mussenden, Olga Mussenden, Ines Mussenden, and Lydia Mussenden, all of Puerto Rico; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 28 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. immediately following the visitation. Burial will take place at the Puerto Rico National Cemetery in Bayamon, PR.
